Gear lust!

July 25, 2008

From time to time I thought I would offer up some recoding tips and share what kinds of gear I use. I certainly do not have the highest end equipment (see picture) but I’ve never been one to be swayed by all the fancy hype that goes along with spending tons of money to make music. It really is all about the music and that next piece of expensive software or hardware will not make you famous! I rather enjoy the challenge of trying to make do with minimal gear. That being said I’m certainly not immune to opening up my latest music magazine or catalog and getting an itchy credit card! If I think I really need something I will buy it but I do try to use common sense.

My goto DAW software is Sonar 7 Producer Edition from Cakewalk. I’ve been using their software for a number of years, ever since my favorite sequencer, Master Tracks Pro from Passport, bit the dust back in the 80s. Though I’m a big fan of Sonar most any decent DAW software, these days, will get the job done. I’ve always been a PC guy because once again I couldn’t see spending all that loot for a mac. That being said with the newer mac computers and the ability to run Windows programs with Boot Camp, I’m being tempted. Yikes, gear lust strikes again!

Oh and BTW, get yourself a funny hat and toy guitar and rock on!
