Abusive relationships, sadly, exist everywhere. Love can turn into something very different given the toxic recipe of passion, insecurity, and rage. The victim in this song fights back in the only way she can, with her words, and ultimately, by walking away. Although the subject matter itself may not be uplifting, the courage to speak out from the heart is always liberating, both to the victim and to the listener. I hope that this song may be encouraging to someone who can relate to this woman’s plight.

CRIMES OF PASSION

(VERSE 1)

It’s a chemical reaction
When love goes up in flames
Mix jealousy and passion
And all you get is pain.
You tell me that you love me
But how can that be true?
Love’s not a word that you can throw around –
It’s all in what you do –

(Chorus)
I won’t be a victim of your CRIMES OF PASSION
That cruel attraction you’re guilty of –
I can’t be a slave to your satisfaction
Your CRIMES OF PASSION –
They just kill love.

(VERSE 2)
You always cross-examine
The minute I get home
What makes you think that I’ve been cheating
When I’ve always been alone?
I can tell that your suspicious of every friend I know
Your talk is getting viscious –
And you’re forcing me to go.

(Chorus)

Bridge

CRIMES OF PASSION
Committed in the darkness of the heart
Your CRIMES OF PASSION
Have only torn us apart –

(VERSE 3)
The hands that used to hold me
Are tightened in a fist –
I can’t go on much longer
I can’t live with you like this –

(Chorus)

(c) 2002, Art & Robin’s Music

EIGHTY-TWO ON THE DAY SHE DIED
THAT’S WHAT SHE SAID, BUT THEY KNEW SHE LIED.
LAID HER OUT IN HER EIGHT PETITE.
LITTLE BLUE PUMPS ON HER SIZE FIVE FEET.

BY TWENTY-THREE SHE’D BEEN AROUND
A SINGLE GIRL IN A MARRIED TOWN
TAUGHT FOURTH GRADE FOR FIFTY YEARS
AND NO ONE COUNTED UP THE TEARS.

AND SOMETIMES, WHEN THE DAY WAS DONE
THE STORMS CAME AND SHE CAME UNDONE
TEARS KEPT FALLING, ONE BY ONE
AS SHE STARED OUT WEST AT THE SETTING SUN.
FORTY KIDS TIMES FIFTY SEASONS
LOTS OF QUESTIONS, NO GOOD REASONS
HOW SHE WISHED THAT SHE COULD RUN
AND CATCH A RIDE ON THE SETTING SUN.

HE CAME TO TOWN ON A TWO-DAY PASS
A SOLDIER LOOKING FOR A LITTLE CLASS.
TOOK HER OUT AND SHE TOOK HIM HOME
AND EVER SINCE SHE HAD BEEN ALONE.

SHE ALWAYS KNEW HE WAS COMING BACK
UNTIL THE DAY THEY TORE UP THE TRACK
SO SHE DID SOME THINGS THAT SHE COULDN’T TELL
TEN MILES OUT AT A CHEAP MOTEL.

(CHORUS)

AND SOMETIMES, WHEN THE DAY WAS DONE
THE STORMS CAME AND SHE CAME UNDONE
TEARS KEPT FALLING ONE-BY-ONE
AS SHE STARED OUT WEST AT THE SETTING SUN
FORTY KIDS TIMES FIFTY SEASONS
LOTS OF QUESTIONS, NO GOOD REASONS
BUT IN THE END WHEN THE RACE WAS RUN
SHE CAUGHT A RIDE ON THE SETTING SUN.
