Art Munson – Bio

I’ve been lucky enough to have been involved in many facets of the music business, as a guitarist, recording engineer, song writer and record producer. I started out playing with Dick Dale and the Deltones, arguably the original California surf band. I later toured with the Righteous Brothers, Nino Tempo and April Stevens, David Cassidy, Nancy Sinatra and Paul Williams. I was also a signed writer with A & M for four years. Following that, I owned and operated my own recording studio.

On recordings I’ve worked with artists as varied as John Lennon, Barbra Streisand, Cher, Billy Joel, The Righteous Bros, Paul Williams, Kris Kristofferson, Vonda Shepard, Brenda Russell, David Sanborn, Bill Medley and many more. I’ve also been involved in numerous TV shows, jingles and films and have had numerous songs recorded by various artists such as Randy Crawford, Bill Medley, Linda Carter and Paul Williams.

In addition to my musical life I have pursued other non-music opportunities that have intrigued me. There was a period in the 70s when I was buying homes and flipping them. Thank goodness I got over that and didn’t pursue it in this last bubble!

One offshoot of my recording studio, back in the 80s, was selling blank cassettes and various media supplies to my clients. In 1989 I was turned on to the Internet (well actually ARPANET) and began selling DAT tape to Deadheads via newsgroups. That business grew and in 1994 I put up our first website www.tape.com. The company was called Cassette House and continued to grow until we sold it to one of our suppliers in 2004. In 2008 an opportunity came my way to start another e-commerce site www.tlracks.com (since closed). I have been more and more interested in the open source movement so I designed that site using ZenCart. I also have other sites at ArtMunsonMusic.com, and MusicLibraryReport.com. I built those on the WordPress platform as well as our own site at here. So many cool things can be done with WordPress.

In the last few years I have been writing and producing music cues and songs with my wife, soul mate and best friend Robin, as well as producing other projects. We have had music placed on many shows including Oprah, America’s Got Talent, Entertainment Tonight, ABC World News and many more. It’s been truly a blessed life and I am constantly reminded that it’s more about the journey than the destination!
